Absenteeism Management Consultant
Main Role :
The Absenteeism Management Consultant supports organizations in analyzing, preventing, and managing absences related to illness, disability, or recurring issues. They act as an expert advisor to human resources, managers, and employees to promote sustainable return-to-work plans while ensuring compliance with Quebec laws, particularly those governed by the CNESST.
Your Next Challenges:
- Analysis and Management of Absenteeism Cases
- Identify the causes and trends of prolonged or repeated absences
- Develop individualized return-to-work action plans
- Collaborate with HR, insurers, and medical professionals
- Employee Support
- Provide personalized support to employees experiencing disability
- Facilitate a progressive and suitable reintegration into the position
- Promote psychological and physical well-being at work
- Development of Internal Policies
- Design absenteeism prevention strategies
- Update leave and absence management policies
- Advise management on best practices
- Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with provincial laws (CNESST, labour standards)
- Inform stakeholders of their legal obligations
- Training and Awareness
- Train managers on proactive absence management
- Implement awareness campaigns on workplace health
- Monitoring and Reporting
- Produce statistical reports on absenteeism
- Provide data-driven recommendations

- Interpersonal Skills :
- Excellent listening and empathy skills to support employees in sensitive situations
- Ability to communicate diplomatically with various stakeholders (employees, managers, unions, healthcare professionals)
- Strong sense of collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork
- Ability to positively influence and mobilize around sustainable solutions
- Proven experience in support relationships, enabling a human and personalized approach to managing personal and professional situations that impact attendance and engagement at work
- Technical Skills :
- Proficiency with HR management tools and absenteeism tracking systems
- Strong knowledge of Quebec labour laws and regulations, including CNESST and labour standards
- Recognized expertise in LATMP (Act respecting industrial accidents and occupational diseases), including compensation, rehabilitation, and return-to-work processes, ensuring compliance and organizational alignment
- Ability to analyze statistical data and produce clear, relevant reports
- Skill in designing internal policies and prevention strategies tailored to organizational realities
- Adaptability:
- The consultant must demonstrate flexibility to work in various environments (public, private, unionized or non-unionized) and adapt to organizational contexts and legislative developments, particularly concerning labour and disability standards. They must also show strong resilience when facing the human and emotional challenges associated with absenteeism, adopting a professional, empathetic, and solution-oriented approach.
Education :
- University degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Occupational Psychology, Occupational Health, Social Work, Psychoeducation, or a related field
- Any additional certification in disability management, mediation, or mental health is considered an asset
Experience :
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in a role related to absence management, disability, or return-to-work programs
- Experience in a unionized environment strongly recommended
- Experience in individual support and HR policy development
